Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP) is a very rare genetic disease, that causes extreme sensitvity to the sun's ultrviolet (UV) rays. Unless patients with XP are protected from sunlight, their skin and eyes may be severly damaged. This damage may lead to cancers of the skin and eye. XP has been identified in people of every ethnic group all over the world. XP was first described in 1874 by Hebra and Kaposi. In 1882, Kaposi coined the term xeroderma pigmentosum for the condition, referring to its charicteristic dry , pigmented skin. This disease is a very sad one.
